OBSESSION OF THE WEEK

What's Hot | Sept. 25, 2012, 4:57 p.m.

Pastels are all the rage! From pretty lilacs to pale pinks – make sure you add a pinch of pastel to your wardrobe this summer. Bring on ice-cream colours for summer 2012.

Take your cue from South African fashion designers like Kelly Esterhuyse, Craig Jacobs and Loin Cloth and Ashes who have pulled off pastels magnificently (see below)!

Celebs in Pastel

Celebs are jumping on the pastel bandwagon so there is no reason why you shouldn’t do so too. Katy Perry, Laura Bailey, Jessica Alba, Sami Gayle, Amanda Seyfried and Sarah Jessica Parker are only a handful of celebs who adore these beautiful, pale colours.

How to Wear Pastels

Still not sure how to wear pastels? Worried that you’re going to look a bit ‘wet’ or ‘floaty’ when you wear this trend? Watch this useful video below from the Guardian’s Fashion section. They give some great advice to those who would like to add a bit of pastel flavour to their wardrobes.

PASTEL FASHION TIPS from Guardian Fashion:

• Wear pastels with attitude! Make it punchy!
• Mix pastels with non-pastels i.e. wear a pastel top and pants and then add shoes or a bag that’s a non-pastel
• Experiment with layers – choose pastel colours that work well together (don’t clash, rather tone them together)
